Late on Friday afternoon, first responders were called to the 13600 block of Cherrydale Drive near Glenn Mill Road in Rockville, where there was a reported fire in a garage that spread to an area home.

According to a Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson, the fire was reported shortly before 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 11 by a neighbor who alerted the family that there were flames showing from the garage.

Investigators determined that the fire started on the floor level inside the overhead garage doors, possibly caused by improperly disposed smoking materials or cigarettes.

It caused an estimated $500,000 in damage.

Four people were displaced. There were no reported injuries.
